This morning I’m celebrating the start of March Break and thus, a shift of pace.  I love my smoothies but usually it’s a half hearted quick toss of items into the Blendtec and a rush to guzzle it down or pack it up to go.

The first sip was so perfectly perfect this morning that I knew I needed to share.

Ingredient list is below and keep reading for my trial and error tips:

1 tsp maca powder

1 tsp cacao powder

2 tsp cacao nibs

1 tsp goji berries

1 cup power fruit mix or a combo you enjoy

2 HUGE overflowing handfuls of baby spinach

1/2 scoop vegan vanilla protein powder

almond milk

Tip #1:  although I have measurements for you here I flow with my moods.  More or less, who cares, smoothies aren’t a science.

Tip #2: cacao nibs are my best friend because I like to chew, even in my smoothie.  So although the blender shreds them a bit I still get crunch.  I have teeth for a reason.

Tip #3:  baby spinach is a gift to smoothies.  It completely disappears and although I do love raw kale I find that spinach is easier on my sensitive tummy.

Tip #4: thick is preferred over drippy in my view so I add about a cup of almond milk to start and if it still won’t blend I’ll add more bit by bit to ensure it stays thick.  Any milk will work and since you’re using the protein powder which makes it creamy already you could swap the milk for water.

MOST IMPORTANT TIP?  A wide glass straw means that none of the “bits” get stuck and it feels pretty decadent to be sipping through something so beautiful.  This recipe makes enough for 2 huge servings.
